HIQA seeking feedback on Draft National Standards for Residential Care Settings for Older People in Ireland
Aug 06, 2014
HIQA, the Health Information & Quality Authority was established to ensure high quality and safe care for people using Health and Social Care Services. It is responsible for setting standards, supporting improvement, social services inspection, monitoring healthcare quality and safety, health technology assessment and health information.
The Draft National Standards apply to nursing homes and other facilities such as geriatric hospital wards run by the HSE, private bodies or voluntary organisations.
The Draft National Standards are broken into eight themes: Person-Centred Care & Support; Effective Services; Safe Services; Health & Wellbeing; Leadership, Governance & Management; Use of Resources, Responsive Workforce and, finally, Use of Information.
Why are we telling you this? It is important that we share our opinions on how these standards are written as they may directly affect you or your loved one.
