Immense Fulfilment - Meet Therese Byrne, Home Instead CAREGiver

“Immense fulfilment” is the term Therese Byrne uses to describe the feeling she gets from her work as a Professional CAREGiver with Home Instead.

Therese's Caregiving journey is a personal one, deeply rooted in her own experiences. The most significant of these, she is explains, is “my role in supporting my son, Conor, who has cerebral palsy.” Previously, Therese also cared for her mother, sharing that “I had the privilege of bringing my mother home from the hospital and providing her with care during her final days.”

Caring for two people so dear to her heart left a profound impact on Therese, one which strongly influenced her in her decision to pursue Caregiving as a career. With a desire to support others in need, Therese joined Home Instead Louth three years ago and says, “I’m lucky now to work for Home Instead. The staff, both in the office and the CAREGivers that I work with are incredible.”

Home Instead CAREGivers support older adults in cities, towns, and villages all over Ireland. Therese works in Clogherhead and Termonfeckin, and describes how she connects with each client she visits. “Building meaningful relationships with them is incredibly rewarding; I love connecting with them by listening to their favourite music, taking the time to hear their stories, and really learning about the people whose care I'm entrusted with. Each individual is special to me, and I am dedicated to providing compassionate care to each person I work with.”

In order to avoid burnout and maintain a good quality of life, it is imperative that CAREGivers take the time to look after themselves, Therese gives us a valuable insight into what she likes to do in her own time. “Outside of work I love spending time with my family and friends, particularly going out for a nice meal for a catch up with loved ones. I also visit Spain every year in the Summer. I’m a big fan of 80’s music, anybody who’s been a passenger in my car can attest to this!”

Home Instead CAREGivers like Therese, play a vital role in assisting Ireland's older adults to age well in their own homes. If you would like to talk to us about a career that means more, apply at the link below today.
