World Alzheimer's Month: Free support and advice for families caring for loved ones living with dementia

Sep 02, 2019

Families caring for  loved ones living with dementia can get free support and advice by attending a series of local workshops across the country during World Alzheimer’s Month this September.

The workshops, which are hosted by Home Instead Senior Care, take place at various locations across the country, and are aimed at giving family carers the “Confidence to Care” for their loved ones living with dementia, says the home care provider.

“The number of people living with dementia is growing rapidly, but understanding and awareness of the condition remains low among the public,” says Shane Jennings, Director of Franchise Operations at Home Instead Senior Care.

“Even those who are living with dementia, and family members who care for them, are often unaware of the latest thinking and best practice in dementia care.

“We have lots of experience in the field of Alzheimer’s and dementia care, and we are committed to helping family carers get a better understanding of the latest information and care management practices, so that they can provide the best care for their relatives who are living with dementia,” adds Shane Jennings.

Home Instead Senior Care has built up vast resources on Alzheimer’s and Dementia Care, which it will share with the public at the free workshops.

The care company hopes its workshops will help people understand the causes and management of Alzheimer’s and dementia, and ultimately play a part in eliminating the stigma around the condition.

“All our front-line staff now receive City & Guilds-accredited training in dementia care, which, combined with our own CARE (Changing Ageing through Research and Education) training approach, makes them experts in the field,” says Shane Jennings.

“We want to help families living with dementia to have the confidence to care for their loved ones – and we’re delighted to share our expertise and resources with them during this important awareness month,” adds Shane Jennings.

Details of all workshops and locations are available in the Alzheimer’s and Dementia Care section of Home Instead’s website, HomeInstead.ie.
