This week, Home Instead Senior Care president Jeff Huber will be representing Home Instead Senior Care and the Global Coalition on Ageing for, The Global Dementia Legacy Event Japan – New Care and Prevention Models.  The summit, being held in Tokyo, is one of the Global Action Against Dementia legacy events, which were developed as a result of the G8 Dementia Summit in London in 2013.

Huber was invited to be a featured presenter by Japan’s Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare.  His presentation, Relationship-based Care and Positive Outcomes for People with Alzheimer’s and Their Families, will take place Thursday, November 6, during a segment of the conference emphasising dementia care and prevention.

During his presentation, Huber will discuss Home Instead’s groundbreaking model for caring for people with dementia and also highlight resources the franchise network offers to family caregivers.  He will also stress that many current models of care are unsustainable and that the best care will be delivered when governments, non-profits/NGOs and private industry work together.    

At this conference, Huber will work to amplify the voices of the home care industry and family caregivers. 

Following the G7 meetings on November 5 and 6, the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) and the Health and Global Policy Institute (HGPI) will convene a meeting to highlight and discuss the critical role of the private sector in addressing dementia.  Duskin Company, Ltd., Home Instead Senior Care’s master franchise partner in Japan, is the supporting partner for this event.  The goal of this meeting is to increase momentum for prevention, care and community-level approaches to care.

During this meeting, Gou Fukushima, Division Manager for Duskin/Home Instead Senior Care, will deliver a presentation on the positive impact that Home Instead Senior Care’s training programmes have had on dementia clients and their families in Japan.  There are currently 105 Duskin / Home Instead Senior Care franchises providing dementia care across Japan.
