Are you struggling to care for an older loved one with Alzheimer’s disease or another dementia at home?

Home Instead is offering a Free Dementia Care course online to educate and support family caregivers. The classes include “Basics of Alzheimer’s disease and Dementia" and "Caring for an Individual Living with Alzheimer’s disease or another dementia”.

When a person you know or love is diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease or another dementia, everything changes. As a caregiver, you will likely struggle to understand the full impact of dementia; it’s easy to become overwhelmed.

Home Instead's Dementia Care course aims to educate and support family caregivers who are involved in the care of a loved one living with Alzheimer’s or another dementia.   The ‘Confidence to Care’ approach focuses on the care and dignity of the person living with dementia rather than the condition, physiology,  treatment or cure.

The vast majority of people living with Alzheimer’s disease or another dementia are cared for in their home by family caregivers. Click on the classes below to start.

This training will help you:

  • Learn care approaches when helping with personal care activities
  • Understand care approaches to help minimise behavioural symptoms
  • Learn and role play starting conversations for effective communication
  • Discover ways to care for yourself so that you can remain a successful family caregiver

Home Ins
tead has a long and proud history of helping family carers who are looking after loved ones living with dementia. Each September, our local offices host specialist Dementia Workshops, where we provide the public with free training in best-practice knowledge and techniques in dementia care.

Unfortunately, much face-to-face activity has been postponed due to restrictions and safety concerns over Covid-19. This year, we have created an online version of the workshop, so that you can learn from our dementia experts, improve your understanding of Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias, and better connect with family members living with dementia through individualised support and engagement each day.
