Increased Demand for Home Care Services
25/10/2011 20:23:34
Home Instead Senior Care, Ireland’s largest in-home care provider has seen an increased demand for dementia care services at home. Waiting lists for dementia services have increased by 20%* in the last year which has resulted in more people availing of private home care.
Fuelling the demand for dementia care services at home is the growing number of people living with a dementia. There are currently 140,000 people in Ireland with Alzheimer’s disease and related dementia – this number is expected to reach nearly 104,000 by 2037*.
The in-home care provider has also seen a 10% growth in business in recent months. “I think people are starting to become more aware of home care – what it is, and what the benefits are”, said Ed Murphy, Managing Director of Home Instead Senior Care. “Home care is a very personal and intimate type of care. A home caregiver will deliver one-on-one care that matches the needs of the person. There is no waiting for help with activities of daily living which happens in an institutionalised care setting. A caregiver spends quality time with the person and is readily available,” continued Ed Murphy.
Home Instead Senior Care provides home care services to approximately 2,000 individuals living with dementia. “The best place for a person with memory loss is in familiar surroundings. The services provided by Home Instead Senior Care are a valuable, trusted solution to help your loved one maintain a regular routine, enhancing his or her quality of life”, said Ed Murphy.
