The purpose of the showcase is to highlight the positive aspects of ageing and also to dispel the negativity that surrounds the ageing process. The conference is the brainchild of two local business women who work closely with seniors.
Rosie Mason of Tower Hearing and Danette Connolly of Home Instead Senior Care felt that this Active Age Plus is the ideal forum to celebrate ageing in Waterford and to offer seniors the advice and support they need.
Rosie Mason commented “There is a wide range of services available to the older person in Waterford, everything from seniors’ rights and education, health and safety, travel and leisure right through to the legal and financial. We saw Positive Ageing Week as the perfect opportunity to bring together these suppliers in one room. Entry to the conference is free. All our exhibitors will be on hand to offer practical free advice to seniors and their families. There will be the chance to win a wonderful gift hamper from Ardkeen Foodstores and some free gifts will be available to attendees.”
Danette Connolly added “By the year 2011 it is estimated that persons aged 65 and over will represent 14.1 per cent of the Republic's population. Currently there are over 7,500 senior citizens living in Waterford City and County. The premise of this seminar is to highlight the services available to the seniors market and to give them the chance to make informed decisions about everything from their health, finances, future security, nutrition and lots more.”
